Jewish Values

Ancient and Modern Jewish Sources That Shape Us

Giving to the poor, visiting the sick, and seeking justice are examples of Jewish values we hold dear. But where do these and other Jewish values emanate from? In this workshop we will rediscover Jewish values by looking at their original sources found in the Hebrew Bible, our ancient rabbis’ writings as well as modern Jewish commentary.

Roots of Tradition

Just as the flower that has been cut from its roots eventually dies, Jewish values cannot sustain their potency without their roots. Having a deeper understanding of the texts that infuse our religion can inspire us to live richer lives and to pass down these values for future generations.

Values Covered

  • Humility
  • Pursuing justice
  • Seeking Peace
  • Tzedakah (charity)
  • Protecting the environment
  • Caring for the body
  • T'shuvah (repentance)
  • Respecting animals
  • Kindness
  • Forgiveness
